- The Mount Sinai Medical Center is a 1,171-bed, tertiary-care teaching facility acclaimed internationally for excellence in clinical care. Founded in 1852, The Mount Sinai Medical Center encompasses The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
- Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the nation’s oldest, largest, and most respected hospitals. Mount Sinai Hospital ranks 19th in U.S. News & World Report's 2009-2010 “America’s Best Hospitals” issue. More than 4,800 hospitals were examined for this report, making the U.S. News analysis the most extensive hospital ranking to date.
- Mount Sinai School of Medicine is internationally recognized as a leader in groundbreaking clinical and basic science research and is known for its innovative approach to medical education.
With a faculty of more than 3,400 in 38 clinical and basic science departments and centers, Mount Sinai ranks among the top 20 medical schools in receipt of National Institutes of Health grants. In its 2010 "America’s Best Graduate Schools" issue, U.S. News & World Report ranks Mount Sinai School of Medicine 22nd out of 126 medical schools nationwide. - The Mount Sinai Department of Dentistry was established in 1910. During World War I, the Dental Division of Base Hospital No. 3, Mount Sinai’s affiliated unit stationed in France, served as the American Expeditionary Force’s largest facial trauma center. During World War II, six Mount Sinai oral surgeons brought their expertise to Italy, Africa, and France to care for wounded soldiers.
- The Mount Sinai Cleft & Craniofacial Program has long been a valuable resource for children and adults with congenital or acquired abnormalities of the head and neck. The first of its kind in the New York metropolitan area, the Division is one of the oldest in the country. Patients consult with a team of physicians and clinicians with expertise in treating complex craniofacial malformations. The team approach helps children with cleft and craniofacial anomalies reach their full potential. A carefully coordinated treatment plan can address these problems, often when the patients are quite young. Even in severe cases, our goal is to minimize the physical and psychological consequences of such anomalies, giving children access to a fuller, more satisfying life.
- The role of orthodontics, dentofacial orthopedics, and presurgical orthopedics in the treatment of cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies includes:
- -- Extra-oral lip taping
- -- Extra-oral nasal stents
- -- Nasoalveolar molding
- -- Palatal expansion
- -- Incisor alignment
- -- Maxillary protraction
- -- Comprehensive orthodontics
- -- Orthodontics in preparation of orthognathic surgery
